Hello to all of the Year 6 pupils who have just completed their Transition Week at St Robert’s.

It was lovely to meet so many friendly, polite, caring and hard working students this week. I want to say ‘Thank you’ for a wonderful week. I am sure all your parents/carers and Primary Schools are very proud of you.

It was fantastic to share in your activities throughout the week and see all the special talents and gifts you will be bringing to our school community as you took part in so many activities such as – making a peacock, bean bags. keyrings, painting T- shirts , powerpoint presentations, articles on Sri-Lanka, making comic strips, blogging, building bridges, meditating and so much more.
You all worked well together as teams and it was good to see many of you make new friendships along the way.

It was great to hear comments such as:- ‘St Robert’s is amazing’, ‘I cannot wait to come here’, ‘I had a really good time’, ‘ I’ definitely coming back’, ‘Can’t wait until September’.

I wish you all well for the rest of your Year 6 and hope to hear you have continued to work hard until the end of the Term.

Have a lovely Summer holiday and I look forward to seeing you and working with you in September. I cannot wait —– can you?

Creative Arts & Humanities – Thursday 17th June 2010

It has been another excellent Transition Day with our wonderful year 6 students having fun in the sun and trying their hand at all sorts of exciting learning activities.

Group one have worked with Miss Cavanagh today, learning about peace and conflict in Sri Lanka; i was particularly impressed to see them meditating.

Group three have spent the day with Miss Spencer completing a dance workshop – some excellent moves were going on, complete with the odd cartwheel! And Group four have been with Mr Hughes. They played cricket this morning before linking that to some work on the Tamil Tigers and producing fabulous masks.

After working with another enthusiastic and dedicated cohort of students, we’re all vert much looking forward to getting the whole year group together tomorrow to celebrate a wonderful week.

Day 3 of Transition Week and we’ve had the opportunity to work with another wonderful and creative group of young people. Everyone was a bit nervous this morning but have settled down well and produced some excellent work.

Group one today have worked with Mts Turrell and have produced some brilliant Art work – the peacock is coming along nicely with its fabulous coloured feathers. Group two have been working with Mrs Stebbing and done some wonderful work.

Group three have produced some excellent key fobs and mobile phone charms on the laser cutter with the help of Miss Hillyard. And group four have continued a theme from earlier in the week by creating scenes of Sri Lanka awe and wonder with Miss Spedding.

Well done everyone for your hard work today and we’re looking forward to seeing you again in the morning. Fingers crossed the sunshine comes with you again!

Creative Arts and Humanities – Tuesday 15th June 2010

Wow! The past two days have really flown over. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with the Year 6 students and I’ve been so impressed with the work everyone has produced.

Today group one were with Mrs Bowers, painting t-shirts about peace and conflict in Sri Lanka. Group two were designing awe and wonder scenes with Miss Spedding (and covering her with paint in the process!)

Group three produced some beautiful art work with the aid of Mrs Baines. Meanwhile, group four have been with Mr Napier in the CLC, producing some brilliant comics.

Particular thanks should go to the Sixth form pupils who have worked so well with their groups over the past two days.

The pupils tomorrow certainly have a lot to live up to, but i can’t wait to meet then!

A group of 15 students have been working with Mr Grozier on a collaborative project about Sri Lanka. They have been using a number of Web 2.0 technologies to research, collaborate and create some great work.

The students worked on collaborative “pads” to research and plan their work and then created the following Word Clouds:-

What an exciting start to Transition Week! Students today are working on a variety of creative tasks based around the theme of “The Awe and Wonder of Sri Lanka”.

Group one have been with Mrs Turrell all day, working on an Art project based around the exciting wildlife of Sri Lanka.

Group two have been with Mr Marletta, and have been learning some Sri Lankan music and using a range of instruments to create their own compositions.

In Group three, Miss Doyle and her team of textiles experts have been making beanbags and decorating them with Sri Lankan batik patterns.

Group four have been creating a special scene of Sri Lankan Awe and Wonder with the help of Mrs Woodgate.

It has been a wonderful day and we’re all very much looking forward to tomorrow’s sessions on ‘Conflict and Peace’. Thanks for all your hard work.

The first day of transition week has involved half of Year 6 students taking part in a number of activities ranging from Creative Arts, Creative Science and ICT. During the day some students were also given the opportunity to record their thoughts about the day in their online learning journal.
