PE Kit Policy

The school believes that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupils physical development and well- being. Success begins with good preparation followed by a consistency of approach. Being correctly dressed for a PE lesson is crucial to start the learning process; correctly dressed pupils are able to safely tackle any learning challenge that they are faced with. PE lessons are fundamentally about being physically active, however many other learning experiences can occur that do not require any physical exertion. Acting as a coach, leader, evaluator, and referee or simply observing
and learning from peers can all be achieved in PE lessons. These activities can significantly contribute to the so called “soft” skills such as team work, communication, leadership, that are so desired in adult life.
• All pupils will dress correctly for safe participation in PE lessons
• Pupils will change for PE even if injured or ill if it is safe for them to do so. This will allow them to take part in meaningful learning experiences (coaching, refereeing, evaluating)
• If pupils cannot get changed (arm in sling etc) they will participate in written learning activities – all pupils will be learning in all PE lessons
• Pupils will be given school PE kit wherever possible if they do not bring their own
• Staff will endeavour to keep disruption regarding kit issues to a minimum
