Day 6 - View from the YMT

October 22nd, 2009

Well what can i say?!?!? It’s been an amazing opportunity to come back to my old school and share this experience with you all. I’ve had a fantastic week.

We have had Year 7 in all day and you’ve all been getting involved and enjoying your elves which makes my job so rewarding! I want to thank everyone for their contributions!

I can’t wait for the family night this evening and hope to see many of you there.

Day 5 - View from the YMT

October 21st, 2009

Today was very full of energy. We spent the morning with Year 8 and as usual the session was packed full of exciting moments.

Just before lunch, there were all sorts of workshops going on, busy, busy, busy!. In the hall, the Drama workshop went really well.

Lunchtime was fantastic with a “Life the the Full” concert where students and staff performed to a high standard and was enjoyed by all!

Also at lunchtime, Howard and Joy from the YMT shared the plinth and the students got the opportunity to experience Philippine food and culture

Then with no time for a break we went straight in to the afternoon session with the rest of Year 8 who were equally fantastic.

Thank you so much for the day.

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Do you live YOUR life to the full. Please use the link below to post your thoughts on our learning wall to discuss this with parishioners on Wednesday 10.05 - 11.05.

Day 4 - View from the YMT

October 20th, 2009

Tuesday has been a busy and great day for St Roberts and the YMT! It’s really nice to learn the the school is making great efforts to explore and discover other countries cultures and backgrounds.

Aside from the ongoing mission activities in school, we had a musical workshop involving lots of students. A number of students have already signed up for the Family night on Thursday.

During lunchtime, there was Irish dancing on the plinth. At the same time, in the Drama Hall, we had a Burma Crew presentation. This was a great event and was very insightful to the situation in Burma.

On top of this Year 9 enjoyed all the activities in the Drama Hall. There has been so much to take in and its been a very enjoyable and learning experience for me personally.

Day 3 - View from the YMT

October 19th, 2009

I Think it’s safe to say it hasn’t been a typical Monday……… The school’s been alive with an exciting and slightly chaotic buzz all day.

Loads of students have been involved in Mission activities from dance and cheerleading workshops to a Fair trade sale and bizarrely - an impromptu game of musical statues on the plinth!

Upstairs in the Chapel there’s been a backdrop of peace and prayer with constant adoration of the Blessed sacrament going on throughout the day.

Students, staff and parishioners all came together for the CAFOD cafe lunch which was lovely and we’ve had a great time here in the hall with Year 10.

Pilgrimage Against Poverty: Newcastle - Jarrow Walk

October 18th, 2009

Church Action on Poverty North East organised a pilgrimage on October 18th to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Iona-London Pilgrimage highlighting the existence of poverty in the UK. Members of Mission control and the YMT attended and supported the event.

Day 2 - View from the YMT

October 16th, 2009

We prayed with the staff to start the beautiful day. We had our first session with half of Year 11 in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. We had a fantastic time during the ice breakers. The MaxFactor was amazing! The Year 11’s were great!

The reflection of the Prodigal Son had a deep impact on everyone. All in all it was a fab day.

The Philippines is a tropical country so i’m not used to the very cold weather. However, the warm reception has made me survive the cold. You are all amazing!

Cracking start! All of the 6th form have been through the hall. parishioners have joined students for a lunchtime mass and the chapel has been a haven of peace all day.

The feedback so far has been brilliant and hopefully the rest of the mission will run this well, with eager Sixth formers coming back for the other sessions.

Thanks to the whole school for their lovely warm welcome,

All the “Life to the Full” t-shirts look brilliant - now all you have to do is live it!
