This morning our first lesson was R.E (RELIGIOUS EDUCATION). Our teacher was Mrs.McHale.
In pairs we had to go round the classroom deciding on which pictures we wanted to write our thoughts, feelings and questions about. My first was about a mouldy piece of bread!

My thoughts were ; That’s disgusting!
My feelings were ; What the heck!!
My question was ; Why would someone want to take a picture a mouldy piece of bread?

My second was about children with crossbows and arrows!

My thoughts were ; That’s not right!
My feelings were ; That’s inhumane for such a young child of maybe 7 or 8!
My questions were ; Why are children using such a dangerous weapon?

My third was about a forest fire!

My thoughts were ; WOW!
My feelings were ; Scary!
My questions were ; What and why was the fire started in the first place?

But, before we started, we listened to “ What a Wonderful world “ By Louis Armstrong!

My Favourite.........

26th June - Thursday

This week I have most enjoyed the thinking hats session. What we had to do was build a tower taller than the tallest member of our group out of newspaper, cellar tape and straws. It had to stand for more than 10 seconds. We were the third people to do it and the two groups before had failed the challenge so we were hoping to be the first. Our idea was to cellar tape the newspaper around the straws but unfortunately it was to weak and fell after about 3 seconds.

After we used the thinking hats to discover our problems , ideas , emotions and others. We had to go in little groups and write down what we thought of the activity. The teacher we had for this session was Miss Cummings.

My favourite lesson this week would have to be the thinking hat’s session with Miss Cummings where we had to build a tower using only some straws some newspaper and cellar tape. Our idea was to roll up the newspaper and stick straws throw it. Our tower had to stand for 10 seconds but unfortunately after about 2 seconds it fell as it wasn’t strong enough.

I enjoyed after that as we had to go round different desk’s and write down our thoughts and ideas using the different coloured hats such as the black hat the red hats and other ones.

My favourite subject or session this week would probably be philosophy for children. I absolutely loved arguing about the questions and trying to think what the answer would be. Our question was can animals talk and it lead to allsorts of different things like do animals have their own language and do they get used to English when they learn their name and when they learn commands like sit and paw. It was so much fun and I didn’t want the session to end. Our teacher Mr Robson was really nice aswell and that made the lesson even better! I have enjoyed all the sessions at saint Roberts but in my opinion philosophy was the best.

Learning to Learn

26th June - Thursday

This morning our second lesson was learning to learn with Mr.Gittins. We talked about what good learning looked like felt like and sounded like. Then we watched a bit of the sponge bob movie and talked about whether or not Patrick was a good learner, we decided Patrick wasn’t a good learner as he didn’t tell sponge bob when he saw the skeleton. Also he said hi to a skull! We then had to look at the computer screen for 30 seconds and remember as much of the poster as we could and draw it! We then had a little competition to see which poster was nearest to the one on the screen. The people who won where Alex W, Naomi R, Olivia T and Danielle J.

Reading Test

25th June - Wednesday

This morning our teacher, Mr. Witte, did a reading test with us for years 6-9. There was 74 questions; the test looked very complicated at first. Only a few of us completed it because we didn’t have the right amount of time only had a half an hour lesson. Two people finished the test in the half an hour we had. The teacher explained to us exactly what we had to do. Once he had finished telling us the instructions we did some practice questions. We had to shade in the right letter to represent the right answer. Once we had finished we went back to the white tent to have our lunch.

E-Blogging

25th June - Wednesday

E-blogging is useful technology that can display your thoughts on the internet for others to access and read it. Your guardian can also write there thoughts and opinion for the internet users to read. Anyone can access E-blogging with a username and password but should not give your username and password to anyone!!! With this technology you can also keep your e-blog to yourself! E-blog lets you overview what you did weeks ago. There is a st Roberts blog as well but instead of there being words there are pictures and videos’. You can: add emotions, change font, change text colour and change your previous entry as well. E-blogging is used in many ways but you have to discover them!

Awe and Wonderment

25th June - Wednesday

In Re today we were doing about Awe and Wonderment. Awe and wonder is about being amazed at something like fireworks. We watched a slideshow of pictures while “What a wonderful world” played in the background. We then had to work in pairs and go around the classroom looking at pictures. We had to pick three pictures and write down our thoughts, feelings and a question about the pictures. When we had finished we all sat down in our seats and Mrs McHale asked a few people to read out what they had put. Then they gave out some habits of mind stickers and said that they were very pleased with our work. I really enjoyed this lesson and would like more types of lessons like this.

Eco Geography

25th June - Wednesday

Today we did geography with Miss. Conlan.
During geography we had to find a missing person called Percy Fawcett, who went missing in Brazil. Firstly we were each given an envelope with cards in, and then we had to put them in chronological order. After that we had to use an atlas to find out where he went. Shortly after we used our imagination to create an animal that could live in the Brazilian rainforest. And we thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!! So we packed our bags and tried to rescue him.

On the 24th of June we had a school tour at St.Roberts. It was massive, loads of corridors and stairs .It was much bigger than our primary schools. Art work was all over with unique pieces of art dotted every where. There is lots of unbelievable artists, it is a very artistic school as well being sporty. When we went on our tour the pupils were very friendly to us and we can’t wait to start in September. We are really looking forward to knowing the school properly and the lessons.

A Drama at St Robert's

23rd June - Monday

Today we had drama with Miss Graham, it was really good because we had to introduce ourselves first and do an action e.g. if someone liked football we had to pretend to kick a ball or if we liked shopping we had to pretend to carry bags. My group had to act like little children and we had to stop the council from taking our playground away from us. There were three groups, the second group were the government, and the third group were the people who had been hired to knock the playground down to make houses. All of the groups had to say their feelings and thoughts about the playground being demolished. The storyline of the park was similar to the story about the Yanomamo Indians. My group were the Indians, the second were the politicians and the third were the workers. We had a narrator in each group and the others did actions in the background. Everyone then performed their part and some of us got Habit’s of Mind stickers.

Singing (Part 2)

23rd June - Monday

On Monday morning we went into the chapel of ST Roberts to do some singing. We learnt some songs from Yanomamo, a drama about a tribe of Africans whose home is going to be destroyed by the Government. The songs are called ‘We Are the Soldiers’ and ‘A Monkeys Tale’. The best bit of the singing was when Mrs Bowen came in and was amazed that we had learnt two songs. My favourite song was ‘We Are the Soldiers’ because I liked the bits when we had to shout out the words instead of sing.

Singing

23rd June - Monday

Today we had singing with Mrs. Bowen and Miss. Greenwell in the chapel. We sang Soldiers of the Jungle and The Monkeys Tale. There were people playing instruments while we were singing. One played the keyboard and one played the bass guitar. The songs were quite high to sing but Danny (the keyboard man) made them lower. At first we chanted the words, and then we sang them. Our favourite song was The Monkeys Tale because it had a catchy, bouncy tune.

What Mr. McHale Said

23rd June - Monday

We gathered in the hall on the morning of Monday 23rd June. We were all a bit nervous, but excited at the same time. Most of our friends were in the same group as each other, but we still made new friends.

After everyone had arrived, Mr. White greeted us and explained what was going to happen throughout the week. After a few words, Mr. McHale took over. He told us that he would be our Head of Year in Year 7. He showed us the booklets with our timetable and goals inside. We had to earn ‘Habits of Mind’ stickers in each lesson, and at the end of the week, the amount of stickers in the book proves how good we are in our lessons. He then spoke about the rules of when we leave for Year 7, which we need to follow for this week too. This week we are looking forward to earning ‘Habits of Mind’ stickers and learning new skills.

Day One

23rd June - Monday

This morning, when we came to St. Roberts, we were sorted into different groups. We were then given a hand print on a piece of paper and were told to write five things we would bring to St. Roberts. After that, we listened to Mrs Bowen explain about the Brazilian rainforests and the animals, people and plants that are located there. She told us how the tribes in the rainforests had been there as long as anyone could remember. And how all the trees are being cut down, leading to all the animals dying. In about 40 years, many of the animals may become extinct. Mrs Bowen also sang a song about soldiers in the jungle from the production Yanomano, which we will be performing on Monday night.
