St Roberts in the Community

Primary students in different parts of the region have been enjoyng some specialist Humanities lessons as St Roberts staff visit them at their own schools. Students loved working with the History artefacts and taking to the stage in the specially designed Shakespeare workshop.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day 2010 marks 65 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. On it we can become part of The Legacy of Hope our responsibility is to remember those who were persecuted and murdered. Our challenge is to make the hopes of victims and survivors of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides part of our future.

A Prayer for Holocaust Memorial Day.

Lord, remember not only the men and women of goodwill, but also those of ill will. Do not remember all the sufferings they have inflicted upon us; remember the fruits we bear, thanks to this suffering – our comradeship, our loyalty, our humanity, courage, generosity, the greatness of heart which has grown out of all this. And when they come to judgement, let all the fruits that we have borne be their forgiveness.
A prayer found on a scrap of paper beside the body of a girl who died at Ravensbruck

Images of God Art Exhibition

23 pupils from St.Robert’s have been involved in working on large scale (mainly) collaborative Art work, for several weeks, for an important exhibition in Durham Cathedral. The exhibition was organised by the Catholic Partnership, with ten other secondary schools involved.

This promises to be a very exciting exhibition – not only because of the prestigious venue, but because it will be a display of pupils’ personal interpretation of the exhibition theme, using a whole range of different media.

The exhibition will consist of work on a variety of scales (St. Robert’s has some of the biggest!) and is to be hung in the Galilee Chapel.

St. Robert’s pupils (Yr. 8, 9 and 10) have sacrificed a lot of their own time and are to be congratulated on their efforts as they have shown real dedication and persistence, working well in a team situation. They, and their families, have been invited to attend the exhibition preview on Monday 18th. January.

The exhibition is open to the public – that’s you! – from 19th. January to 31st. January 2010.
Mr. Cowen would like to thank Mrs. G. Baines, Mr. Kelly, Mr. S.Smith and
Mrs. B. Wilson for their involvement and commitment to this project.
